A Contemporary Home Remodel In Tuscaloosa Ala.

The Waterfall Neighborhood, Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Toulmin Kitchen and Bath, in collaboration with Interior designer Krissy Bunn, & Brian Hurd, Builder recently completed the construction of this contemporary home in the Waterfall Neighborhood in Tuscaloosa. This whole-house project included creating a stunning high-contemporary kitchen, including an elegant waterfall edge island and backsplash using a large format porcelain tile by MSI. The project also included the first floor half bath, remodeling the master bathroom, the second-floor children's bathroom, and various other areas of the home.

A Stunning High-Contrast Kitchen Design

This beautiful open kitchen features a contemporary mix of three contrasting cabinet textures, starting with Eclipse Cabinetry by W. W. Wood for the wall cabinets painted in Arctic White. The cooktop is flanked on either side by high-gloss Acrylic Bianco cabinets, which offer a stark contrast to the Arctic White. While the island, constructed of reconstituted oak with Mountain Haze Stain, brings in a natural texture. The waterfall edge showcases the beautiful veining of the large format MSI Statuario Bari porcelain tile countertops creating a stunning visual focal point. To keep the lines clean and contemporary, we eliminated the hardware on the wall cabinets. We instead chose to use hidden Gola Channels for opening the drawers, and touch latches for the cabinet doors to complete this seamless design.

With appliances by SubZero Wolf, this is a real chef's kitchen. Kitchen appliances include dual wall ovens and a warming drawer in stainless steel. The stainless cooktop range with large red knobs provides a pop of color that draws the eye to the stunning veining of the surround and the custom-built 8' wide stainless hood.

Expanding the Kitchen Space

To add functionality to the kitchen, we included a wet bar area to the side. We tied the look together by incorporating the same Acrylic Bianco cabinetry found in the kitchen, along with a wine refrigerator and an automatic ice maker. The finishing touch of this wet bar area is a fabulous antique mirror backsplash. The eat-in area of the kitchen is flooded with light. It features the same Visual Comfort Lighting as over the kitchen island. Opposite the wet bar, we included a small desk area for organizing and paying bills. We provided the high-end Schumacher wallpaper backsplash for the desk.

Remaking The First Floor Half Bath

We also remodeled the half bath down the hall from the kitchen to reflect the high-contrast design concept the homeowners love. The half-bath features a matte black WW Wood Eclipse series high-pressure laminate vanity. It gives the room a modern feel that's complemented by the sleek modern Cambria, black countertop and black Kohler Sink. The real star in this design is the fantastic Soci Waterjet Mosaic tile backsplash. These tiles come in a sheet and consist of black and white marble with a brass inlay. Designed to turn heads, this tile provides a stunning high-contrast contemporary visual focal point to the design.
