Kitchen Design and Floor Plan For A Clear Creek Colony Home

Clear Creek Kitchen Renovation and New Floor Plan

One of the most exciting elements when renovating a kitchen is to take the existing space, and through creative design, transform it into a more functional, modern kitchen. Jay Young and the Design team at Toulmin Kitchen and Bath recently completed a magical transformation of a kitchen in the Clear Creek Colony neighborhood in Northport, Alabama.

Creating a Timeless Kitchen Design

Once space was opened up and a new floor plan designed, the team worked closely with the homeowners to source materials, fixtures, and appliances. The dated tile flooring was replaced first. The team chose common white oak hardwood flooring which was sanded and finished with a half medium brown, half antique brown satin stain. This worked to brighten the space even more.

As seen in the before pictures, the original cabinetry was dark oak giving the room a cavelike feel. The homeowners chose new cabinets by Shiloh Cabinetry. The Shiloh Repose cabinets feature a gray beaded inset with gives them clean lines and a contemporary look. The cabinetry hardware is from Top Knobs Emerald and Chalet lines.

The countertops on both the base cabinets and the island are Dupont Quartz in London Sky. Quartz was chosen not only for the contemporary the look but also because it's a low maintenance and durable surface that fits in with the homeowner's lifestyle.

Finishing The Contemporary Look

Lighting is an essential element in any effective kitchen design.  Task under cabinet lighting was used to illuminate the Dupont Quartz countertops. The rest of the lighting fixtures include three oil rubbed bronze pendants over the island along with a swing arm sconce over the sink and a modern chandelier over the contemporary breakfast table.

The homeowner's wanted a clean, modern look form the backsplash. Their choice of  3” x8” Prima Tile in Sterling provided a monochromatic look that they love. It's a current design trend in backsplash design that keeps the light contemporary style and ties in with the rest of the kitchen design. The appliances are all Pro-Style Stainless Steel by Jenn-Air, and the range is flanked by utensil and spice drawers that keep everything handy for the chef.

Kitchen Pantry Area

Opening up the floor plan provided the homeowners with additional space. The design team at Toulmin added a first-floor laundry and an additional pantry area. This means no more need to go up and down the stairs to accomplish daily tasks and added to the overall functionality of the space for the household.

Opening up space and creating a new floor plan provided these Clear Creek Colony homeowners with a large, open, functional kitchen with plenty of natural light, storage, and improved flow. Taking a creative approach to kitchen remodeling and design, transformed a formerly small, dark kitchen into a warm, open, contemporary space perfect for daily dinners and entertaining friends.
